Spartanburg, SC - The night began with Sparta 20/20 FC being recognized by the Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce. The ceremonial ribbon cutting by Sparta President Raymond Curry was followed by words from the UPSL Southeast Conference Manager Andy Salandy. A vocal crowd was on had to witness the very first meeting between Sparta and the Clovers. Fans and players braved cold temps to be present for a bit of history as the UPSL Southeast Conference kicked off its inaugural season. The match got off to a quick start in the 4th min. as Paul Van Scherpenseel tallied the first ever UPSL Southeast Conference goal on a towering header from a corner. The Clovers would add three more in the first half, with forward Henry Bane netting the 2 of his first 3 goals. Sparta did better with possessing the ball in the last 20 min of the first half, yet could not capitalize on their momentum after hitting the cross bar. The second half began with a refocused Clovers squad adding a 5th goal in the 52nd min. Enrique Carcamo timed his pass perfectly to assist on Danny Reddin's low, slotted shot that skimmed passed the Sparta GK. Yet the night of firsts didn't go completely as planned for the Square City Club. The Clovers gave up a clean sheet when a breakdown in the backline lead to a Sparta player being taken down in the box by Clovers GK Ali Bassir. The PK opportunity gave Sparta their only goal of the night. The match ended in favor of the Clovers, 7-1. A big way to collect all three points on the road. The away days continue next Saturday as the Clovers take the long journey to Charlottesville, Va. to take on C-Ville Football Club.
