Spartanburg, SC - Arthur Bello Veiga played super sub on Saturday night, leading the Clovers to a 2-1 victory over Sparta 20/20 FC. Veiga registered a goal and assist, scoring on a PK and assisting Timo Mesa on the game winning goal. Sparta started the match with more possession of the ball and took advantage in the 11th min, a bad turnover in the midfield led to a shot on goal that just tipped and went over the crossbar. A few minutes later, GK J. W. May made a double save to deny Sparta an early goal, the resulting counter attack saw Timo Mesa’s curling shot go just wide of the far post. The Clovers would find their way and get back into the game with a number of opportunities. In the 39th min, Henry Bane’s free kick opportunity went over the bar. Kike Carcamo’s pressure forced a turnover which led to a shot on goal just outside the box in the 44th min. The first half would end scoreless. Subbing on at the start of the second half, Arthur Bello Veiga would get an early shot on goal. In the 52nd min, Veiga found space in the box on the right side but skied his opportunity over the bar. In the 78th min, Kike Carcamo got onto the end of ball played in the box. His cross was met by the hand of a Sparta Defender and resulted in a PK. The Brazilian and SCAD product, Veiga, stepped up to the spot and fired the shot home for the 1 nil advantage. In the 86th min, Jay DeAlmeida did well to body his man and supply Veiga with the ball which lead to Timo Mesa’s first goal of the UPSL Fall Season. Unfortunately, the Clovers would give Sparta a glimmer of hope in the 87th min. A foul just inside the box lead to Sparta scoring from the Penalty Spot, cutting the Clovers lead to one goal. Sparta’s late rally would fall short as the match would end in the Clovers’ favor by 2 goals to 1. The Clovers remain unbeaten on the UPSL Fall Season with 2 wins and no loses.
